Access to Mifepristone by mail is maintained, for now

We’re relieved that this unjust attempt to limit access to mifepristone across the United States has been stopped for now. Mifepristone is a proven safe and effective medication that should be available to abortion seekers without politically-imposed, medically-unnecessary restrictions. Today, we know that abortion pills will remain readily available by mail in all 50 states and territories.

Access routes to mifepristone plus misoprostol abortion by mail will continue to include:  

• A strong cohort of US licensed clinicians that provide abortion pills by mail after a synchronous (video/phone) or asynchronous (form) consultation. Some of these providers are able to provide telehealth abortion in all 50 states under the protection of strong shield laws in some states.

• In addition, robust alternative distribution networks have grown and strengthened across the United States over the past decade, and they will remain in operation in all states. We believe these alternate routes of access–which supply mifepristone plus misoprostol abortion pills by mail–could already account for up to 10% of all abortions in the US. We expect new models of access to continue to emerge in response to any future political attempts to restrict access to FDA approved abortion medications.
